1953 National Soccer League

It shows Toronto Hungaria goalkeeper Joe Hain and Tridents forward Lev Dachkovsky.

New clubs

Before the season started Ukrainian Tridents and Toronto Italia joined the National Soccer League. Toronto Italia, formerly known as the Italo-Canadians, had been playing in the Can-Con League. Tridents joined the league from the Toronto Metro Soccer League.

Clubs and players

Toronto Italia player Albero Sencic was described by the Montreal Gazette as a dazzling forward.

Goalkeeper Dick Arends signed for East End in late June.

Review of the season

Toronto Italia made their debut with a 3-3 draw against Toronto Hungaria.

On Friday June 19 Les Medley signed for Ulster United. The Toronto Star described him as the biggest soccer star to sign for a Canadian club since the 1920’s.

About 88.000 fans attended the games at Fred Hamilton field in 1953.
