Arthur Varley was born in Canada and started his career in junior soccer in Toronto. He then played as centre forward and winger with East End in Toronto.
After spending four years four years in the army during World War II he joined Ulster United. In the 1946 season he won the Dominion Cup with Ulster United.
The 6’1″ and 175 lbs right winger played for Ulster United in the exhibition game against Liverpool Football Club on June 15, 1948. 17,000 soccer fans watched Liverpool win 5-1 at Maple Leaf Stadium in Toronto.
