George was born in Scotland and started his soccer career as a goalkeeper with Tranent Juniors.
After coming to Canada he joined Ulster United in Toronto. George won the Dominion Championship with Ulster United in the 1951 season.
Ulster United played against English league champions Manchester United in an exhibition game on Thursday night June 12, 1952. The game was played at the University of Detroit Stadium in front of a crowd of 10,000. Manchester United won 4-2 with George being Ulster United’s goalkeeper that day.
George was picked on numerous all-star teams during his career in Canada.
On May 21, 1955 he was the goalkeeper for Ontario All-Stars against Huddersfield Town. The English club won 3-1 at Varsity Stadium in Toronto in front of a crowd of 5,600.
