Rodney Leo Desmeules was born September 23, 1948, in Newsbury, England. He started his soccer with Newsbury Town together with his brother Colin.
In October 1966 he signed a professional contract with Swindon Town. Rod played in three league games for Swindon in the 1966-67 season.
He appeared in one game for Swindon in the 1967-68 season.
Before the start of the 1974 National Soccer League season he joined the First Portuguese club in Toronto. In the coming years he was simply known as Rodney for the fans of soccer in Toronto. After many years of tough struggle for league-leadership, First Portuguese won the 1979 National Soccer League championship with Rodney as captain of the team.
Rod later returned to Hungerford and is known for his dedication to work in his local community.
