Norman Briley was born in Toronto, Ontario. He made a huge impression in his youth as a goalkeeper both in soccer and hockey.

During World War II Norm was stationed with the Army in Newmarket, Ontario, and represented that club in the Toronto & District League.

At the age of 17 Norm he made his debut with Ulster United with in the Toronto & District League in the 1944 season.

Norm was the goalkeeper of Scarboro Rangers in the Ontario Hockey Association in the 1945-46 season. He was said to be headed for the pros for the 1946-47 season.

Before the start of the 1946 soccer season in Toronto he signed for East York United. In 1947 he joined the East End Canadians. Norm won the National Soccer League championship with East End Canadians in the 1952 NSL season.

Norm passed away in 1992 at the age of 66 from a heart attack.
