On Saturday August 29, 1948, a combined team from Montreal clubs Carsteel and Stelco played against American Soccer League club New York Americans.

The match was played at the grounds at Charlevoix Street in Montreal.

The match reports said that Montreal goalkeeper Jimmy Fleming had much more to do than Americans’ goalkeeper Bob Yingling.

Eight minutes after half-time Bill Chambers passed to Bob McKenna, McKenna passed to Paul Castonguay who headed home the cross to make it 1-0.

Seventeen minutes into the second half Americans’ player Carl Erickson evened the score.

The match finished in a 1-1 tie.
