After a disappointing 1953-54 season in Scotland the famous Glasgow Rangers went on a nine-game tour of Canada in the summer of 1954. On Saturday May 22 they met a combined team from Ontario.

The match kicked off at 3.00 p.m. at Varsity Stadium in Toronto in front of 12,000 soccer fans. Willie Paton scored for Glasgow Rangers in the first half.

Scottish-born Jimmy Jackson scored Ontario All-Stars goal. It was the first goal scored against Rangers during their tour.

In the second half Willie Waddell, Prentice and Simpson scored for Glasgow Rangers.

Ontario goalkeeper George Anderson was commended for his brilliant goalkeeping by the press after the match.

Jimmy Jackson returned to the United Kingdom after the 1954 National Soccer League season and joined Notts County.

Rangers’ star fullback Sam Cox later returned to Canada in 1958 and starred in the National Soccer League.
