In the summer of 1954 Bob joined West Auckland from Northallerton.
Bob served in the Royal Air Force from 1955 until 1957. While playing for his local R.A.F. team Bob was scouted by several Football League clubs. These clubs included Preston North End and Sunderland.
He was released from the Royal Air Force in January 1958 and joined Stanley United
In October 1958 Bob joined Gateshead. He played in 26 league games in the 1958-59 season.
In July 1960 Bob emigrated to Canada and signed for Toronto White Eagles. The Polish White Eagles finished the 1960 NSL season in eight place in the thirteen team league.
