Bio:
Ernie started his career with Broadway Thistle. Signed for Irish Football League club Portadown in December 1950 from amateur club Short & Harland. Made his debut for Portadown against Cliftonville on December 2, 1950. Ernie played at outside left when Portadown beat Cliftonville 3-1.
In March 1951 he was transferred to Ards, he was said have had the chance to play in English football. He made his debut for Ards against Cliftonville on March 3, 1951.
Then emigrated to Canada where he joined Ulster United in Toronto.
Moved to Hamilton, Ontario, where he played for Hamilton Austins, British Imperials and Hamilton Italo-Canadians.
Played for Hamilton & District All-Stars against the touring Irish Internationals on May 18, 1953 in Hamilton, Ontario.
On Wednesday night May 19, 1954, he played for the Hamilton & District All-Stars against Glasgow Rangers.
Voted as British Imperials’ Most Valuable Player after the 1956 season.
Joined National Soccer League club Hamilton Westinghouse before the start of the 1958 season. Loaned out to Toronto Italia for the 1958 NSL playoffs.
Traded from Hamilton Italo-Canadians to National Soccer League club Toronto Ukraina for $800 in July 1960.
