George started his career with Merchiston Thistle. Signed for Scottish First Division club Hibernian in October 1951.
Signed for Hamilton Academicals in July 1953. Played in 28 Scottish League games for the Accies.
Transferred to Blackpool in May 1957. Was said to have also interested Luton Town.
Joined Southern League club Bath City in August 1959. Helped the club win the Southern League title for the first time in the club’s history in the 1959-1960 season.
Joined Polish White Eagles in Toronto in May 1961. The White Eagles finished in third place in the final standings in the 1961 National Soccer League season.
Moved together with the Polish White Eagles to Buffalo, New York, in 1962. The renamed Buffalo White Eagles played in the Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League in the 1962 season, but folded at the end of the season.
