Jimmy played for Newcastle United juniors and Northumberland F.A.
18 years old when he signed a professional contract with Nottingham Forest in October 1958. Had been with the club since joining them from a Newcastle-on-Tyne junior club in the summer of 1958. Played for Forest’s reserve team in the 1958-1959 season.
Joined National Soccer League club Ulster United in May 1962. His last club was said to be Chelmsford City.
Later played for Paramount United in the Greater Los Angeles Soccer League.
