Bio:

Emmanuel Mattike Kulu was born on February 28, 1952 in Bamenda, Cameroon. He started his soccer career with CDC Tiko, Leopard Sportif de Douala and St. Joseph Sasse College in Cameroon.

Emmanuel came to the United States in 1973 to study chemical engineering at University of Buffalo. When he arrived in the United States he turned down an offer to join New York Cosmos.

While at the University of Buffalo Emmanuel played with the UB Bulls soccer team. In his freshman year in 1974 he scored 10 goals. He ended the 1975 season with 11 goals and a total of 25 points. He also played with Black Stars in the Buffalo & District Soccer League and led them to the 1975 league championship.

In May 1976 the 5-11 and 180 pound striker joined Buffalo Blazers. He scored 21 goals in 18 games in the 1976 NSL season. Emmanuel missed three games of the twenty-one game league schedule, two of them when he was suspended for retaliating to racial slurs.

It took until Thursday May 12 before Emmanuel agreed to a contract with the Blazers for the 1977 season. On Sunday July 3, 1977, Emmanuel scored three goals to lead the Blazers to a 4-2 away victory over Ottawa Tigers. He also had three goals that were disallowed. When the team returned from Ottawa in the morning of Monday July 4 Emmanuel was denied re-admittance to the United States. Missed the rest of the NSL season due to the immigration problems.

Rejoined Buffalo Blazers in April 1978. The Blazers played in the National Soccer League’s First Division in the 1978 season.

Joined National Soccer League club St. Catharines Roma in May 1979. Scored three goals in his debut against Sudbury Cyclones on 30 May 1979.

On June 25, 1980 Emmanuel signed a contract with North American Soccer League club Rochester Lancers for the remainder of the 1980 NASL season. After only one league game he was released by the Lancers on July 16, 1980.

After his period in professional soccer he continued to play with Buffalo Soccer Club for many years.

Emmanuel passed away at the age of 67 on September 27, 2019, in Buffalo, United States.
