The Canadian National Soccer League was formed by the merger of the National Soccer League and the Canadian Soccer League in 1993.
The National Soccer League had operated from 1926 mostly in Ontario, but often as an Inter-provincial League including Quebec.
The Canadian Soccer League was a nationwide Canadian league that operated from 1987.
In 1993 the two leagues merged as the Canadian National Soccer League. The CNSL folded after the 1997 season.
