From Paisley, Scotland. Younger brother of Peter Kerr (Third Lanark, Reading and Port Elizabeth, S.A.). In 1962 Peter Kerr was living at 5, Belltrees Crescent, Paisley.
Brother of John Kerr (Partick Thistle, Hamilton Primos, New York Cosmos).
Ron started his career with Glasgow United. 16 years old when he signed for Scottish League club Third Lanark on 18 April 1963. Given a free transfer by Third Lanark in May 1964.
Ronnie signed for Scottish League club Partick Thistle on 8 May 1964.

18 years old when he signed for Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League club Hamilton Primos in May 1965.
His brother John had been playing for Hamilton Primos since the the start of the 1963 ECPSL season.
Guest player for Detroit Kickers against West German club Hannover on Sunday 13 June 1965.
Returned to Scotland at the end of the 1965 season.
Had a short spell with Scottish League club St. Mirren in October 1965.
Was reportedly wanted by Football League clubs Reading and Barnsley in November 1965.
