Bio:
Cecil started his senior career with local club Gateshead in 1941. During his career with Gateshead he scored 140 goals in 170 games. In the 1946-47 season he scored 21 goals.
On 21 April 1947 Cecil was transferred to Middlesbrough for £6,000. The centre forward started brightly but after a while he struggled to get into the starting eleven.
In 1949 he joined Chelmsford City. Cec scored 49 goals for Chelmsford in the 1949-50 season. Wanting to return to the Football League, Cec left Chelmsford after that season.
He joined Barnsley in July 1950. He scored 43 goals in 50 Football League games
In November 1951 Notts County paid £20,000 for his transfer from Barnsley.
