Goalkeeper Herbert Pohl was born in Poland in 1941. In 1957 he escaped from the then Communist country to Germany. He was said to have played for Gornik Zabrze in Poland.
He played for Toronto Ukraina in the National Soccer League in the 1960 season. The Ukrainians finished in a seventh place in the final standings in the 1960 NSL season.
Herbert joined Montreal Cantalia in April 1961. Cantalia were members of the newly-formed Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League and finished in second place in the final standings.
The 20 year old goalkeeper returned to Germany after the 1961 season to study at a university.
